Why Hipparchus matters

Hipparchus measured star positions and noticed that Earth's axis slowly changes direction over centuries.

Hipparchus worked in Greece during the Ancient era. This was long before modern laboratories, printing or electronic instruments, so knowledge grew through observation, calculation, teaching and carefully copied texts.

Questions in astronomy often require connecting small local observations with events happening across enormous distances or spans of time. Hipparchus helped make that connection measurable and understandable.
